Visit Eagle Beach in Juneau

The Eagle Beach State Recreation Area Juneau, AK, is 600 gorgeous acres of campgrounds, trail systems, picnic area, and more! Located about 16 minutes from Silverbow Inn, the beach section of the area features clams, sea peaches, and crabs, all tasty treats for the eagles that live in the area.

Hike the Trails

The best way to explore Eagle Beach is by hiking one of the many trails available. One of the most popular trails is the Loop Trail, which is a little less than two miles long. It’s accessed from the main entrance and features open meadows, old-growth forest, wetlands, and more. In the springtime, wildflowers line the path. Keep an eye out for the wildlife that live around here, like porcupines, squirrels, and even bears. If you ever encounter a bear during your visit, give them their space and make plenty of noise to alert them to your presence.

If you’re looking for a shorter hike that lets you explore the beach, head to the Beach Access Trail. Less than one-mile long, this trail features gorgeous views of the Eagle River. If you’re visiting in the late summer, be aware that there may be bears fishing for salmon in the river.

In the winter, strap on your skis and head out on the cross-country ski trail! A little over one mile, this trail is maintained for skiing when there is enough snow. You’ll wind through the old-growth forest, with some views of the Eagle River.
