VIsit the Jensen-Olson Arboretum

The land the Jensen-Olson Arboretum sits upon was a gift to the City of Juneau from Caroline Jensen, a long-time resident of the town and Master Gardener. Caroline was passionate about gardening and wanted to pass along that love to her town. In 2007, the Arboretum was opened to the public and has since evolved into an exquisite display of plants. There are over 1,200 native and cultivated species planted in the garden. These gardens aren’t just pretty to look at! They also provide an incredible opportunity to teach science and botany to the next generation.

Aside from the gorgeous gardens, the Jensen-Olson Arboretum hosts some incredible events during the year. These include an annual “birthday party” for the gardens to celebrate its opening day, children’s programs, and annual plant sales. One of the annual highlights is the meeting of the American Primrose Society. Caroline Jensen was passionate about this particular species of plant, and the garden now holds the nationally-accredited collection for the genus Primula.

There are also fundraising events held by the Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum that fund the garden’s programs, public outreach, and public education. These include a biennial fall wine tasting at Glacier Gardens. Who wouldn’t want to sip wine for a good cause! Check the organization’s website to get a full look at the fun events and programs taking place!
