Ride the Mount Roberts Tramway
The Mount Roberts Tramway is open from May through September, every day of the week. It runs from 11:000 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Tuesday through Saturday. Passes are just $34 for adults and $17 for children ages three to 12. Kids two and younger are free! You can only purchase tickets from the Tramway Station, which is just a nine-minute walk from Silverbow Inn!
The Mount Roberts Tramway is one of the most vertical tramways in the world, meaning that has a steep incline. It’s also the only tramway in Southeast Alaska. It is fully ADA compliant, though, making it accessible to any guests with disabilities. It first opened in 1996 and has been serving the public ever since.
Enjoy a Meal
Once you ride the 1,800 feet, past the panoramic views of Mount Robert and the Gastineau Channel, you’ll arrive at the mountain and the Timberline Atop Mount Roberts. This wonderful Mount Roberts Tramway restaurant offers fresh and local seafood in the form of sandwiches, salads, and more. Pair that with a locally brewed beer, homemade dessert, and outdoor deck and you have a wonderful meal!
Tour the Nature Center on Mount Roberts to learn about the local flora and fauna. You’ll be able to hike the many Mount Roberts trails or read the many interpretive displays. The Nature Center has a gift shop, but you’ll also want to stop by the Raven Eagle Gifts & Gallery, which has a great selection of gifts, souvenirs, and clothing. Many of these pieces come from Alaskan Native artisans and are great examples of the many traditional materials and methods used in this region.
