Visit Tracy Arm Fjord

Tracy Arm Fjord is about 45 miles south of Juneau, near the Tongass National Forest. The only way to access the fjord is by boat, making it essential for most visitors to book one of the local Tracy Arm Fjord tours. If you’re staying at Silverbow Inn during the summer months, you’re in luck! When you reserve your room, you can add our Tracy Arm Fjord All Day Boat Tour to your booking.

The tour is conducted by Adventure Bound, a fantastic local tour company. The boat departs just two blocks from Silverbow Inn at 7:30 a.m. every day. The tour costs $160 per person. During the tour, you’ll enjoy a 45-mile ride to the fjord. Once the boat arrives to the fjord, the captain will turn off the engines and generators so that guests can listen to the ice crackling and popping. It surprises many of our visitors to learn that ice is, in fact, quite loud! The Tracy Arm glaciers that you will be seeing are both called Sawyer. It’s an active tidewater glacier, meaning that pieces of ice still break off. This process is called “calving.”

Aside from the incredible natural features, you are also likely to see plenty of wildlife. Visitors tend to see everything from mountain goats to whales! Adventure Bound estimates that 85% of their tours get to see whales. During the summer months, when this tour is available, many harbor seals have their pups in this area, so be sure to keep an eye out for any little ones!
