A Day at Point Bridget State Park

Point Bridget State Park is actually the only state park in Juneau. This park, which encompasses an area of more than 2,800 acres, overlooks Berner’s Bay and Lynn Canal. It’s located about 40 miles north of our downtown Juneau hotel on Glacier Highway. Point Bridget State Park is a wonderful park for day use, and offered a broad range of outdoor activities, including hiking and fishing in the warmer months, and snowshoeing and cross country skiing come winter.

The ecosystem at Point Bridget State Park showcases some of the best of the Alaskan wilderness.  Here, you’ll encounter incredibly scenic meadows, dramatic cliffs, spectacular seaside views, salmon spawning streams, rocky beaches, and plenty of wildlife. Beavers and porcupine sightings are frequent, and during the salmon run in late July, bears are known to feed here.  On the rocky shores, you can expect to see Sea Lions and harbor seals, too – and not too far offshore from April – September, you might just get lucky enough to see some Humpback Whales.

If you are joining us in Juneau this summer, we recommend you enjoy the rocky shoreline, dramatic views, and beautiful meadows at Point Bridget State Park. While you’re there, make sure you take a hike on the Point Bridget Trail. It’s a relatively easy walk, coming in at around 7 miles round-trip. Not only is the scenery beautiful here as it travels through wetlands and wildflower-laden meadows, but it’s a great place for birdwatching, too! Other great hikes in the area include the North Bridget Cove Trail and the Cedar Lake Trail.

The Trail to the Point Bridget Trail leads to the Cowee Camping Cabins, which is where you’ll access the Cedar Lake Trail.  It’s a great way to turn a day trip into an overnight adventure! The Point Bridget Trail also gives hikers access to the Blue Mussel Cabin, while the North Bridget Cove Trail offers access to the Camping Cove Cabin. Finally, while you’re in Point Bridget State Park, don’t miss your chance to enjoy some coastal kayaking or salmon fishing in either Berner Bay and Cowee Creek.
