Your Guide to 5 of The Best Restaurants in Juneau

Alaska’s state capital has experienced a culinary Renaissance over the past few years and is now home to over 90 locally owned and operated restaurants. You won’t find any big-chain restaurants here, and we’re proud of that. What you will find is a selection of unique eateries, each with a distinct personality. You’ll also find an array of cuisines, which gives you so many different opportunities to savor our culture. Your Guide to 5 of the Best Restaurants in Juneau

With so many options, it can be difficult to narrow down which places to try first. To make it a bit easier for you, we compiled a short list of our top picks that are walking distance from your modern boutique hotel room!

In Bocca Al Lupo

Are you craving authentic Italian cuisine? Dine at In Bocca Al Lupo, one of our favorite restaurants in Juneau. The delicious Italian delight opened in our inn’s former restaurant, the Silverbow Bakery & Wine Bar. The name “In Bocca Al Lupo” translates literally from Italian as “in the mouth of the wolf,” which is a common phrase for good luck. Their handmade pasta and wood-fired pizza pairs perfectly with friends and wine (of course). Since they’re right next door, you can always take a glass of wine to enjoy by the fireplace in our lobby at the Silverbow Inn.  In Bocca Al Lupo serves as an excellent dinner spot Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tracy’s King Crab Shack

Perhaps one of the most famous restaurants in Juneau is Tracy’s King Crab Shack. The seafood hot spot was featured on Bravo TV’s Top Chef back in 2013. Tracy’s King Crab Shack offers an exclusive seafood menu of Alaskan King Crab, fresh shrimp, and delectable sea scallops. Due to the incredible food and the amazing views of the Gastineau Channel, Tracy’s may already be on your culinary bucket list. Enjoy the restaurant at its new location. In a hurry? Order your meal in advance online.

Experience Salt, the most creative and unique restaurant in Juneau. The modern downtown restaurant revitalizes typical foods like filet mignon, salmon, and calamari with soulful spices, fresh ingredients, and quirky garnishing. Their unique dishes pair well with their signature wines, rotating draft beers, or tasty cocktails. Drop by a little early for their daily Happy Hour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Salt’s dinner hours are Sunday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Rookery Cafe

The Rookery Cafe was voted the No. 1 Restaurant in 2014 and 2015 by Juneau Empire readers and for a good reason. Discover their delicious sandwiches, wonderful vegetarian dishes, and flavorful coffee. The Rookery Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Are you looking for the perfect brunch spot? Stop in on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their signature brunch menu.

Hangar on the Wharf

When hunger strikes while you’re out exploring Juneau, grab a bite to eat at Hangar on the Wharf. This beautifully restored airplane hangar serves fresh-caught, wild Alaskan seafood, hand-cut steaks, and amazing burgers. Pair your meal with one of their 125 bottled beers or one of the 25 beers on tap. Enjoy the gorgeous panoramic views of the Gastineau Channel and Douglas Island Mountains. You may even spot a glimpse of Juneau’s aquatic wildlife during your meal! Hangar on the Wharf is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
