Visit Rock Dump in Juneau

No matter your preference or level of experience, you’re going to find something at Rock Dump that’s just your speed. They offer 39 Top Rope climbing routes, which range in difficulty. For those unfamiliar, Top Rope is your standard vertical rock climbing. The wonderful staff at Rock Dump will provide the ropes, the belay devices, and instructions on how to use them.

Bouldering is another option for climbers. The Rock Dump features three separate areas suitable for this free-hanging activity: the cave, the main board, and the tunnel. As with the Top Rope systems, the routes range in difficulty.

Guests planning on climbing the Mendenhall Glacier or other natural features during their Alaskan adventure should take advantage of Rock Dump’s lead climbing facility. Here, you can practice sequencing and clipping. No matter your experience level, it’s always a good idea to run through these skills before you head out!

Make some new friends at Ladies’ Night, every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This class is specifically for lady climbers to better their skills and meet new people.

Enjoy the Special Features

If you’re in the mood for a special kind of challenge, try your hand (and feet) at the puzzle circuit! This 100-move route will determine your skill and endurance. If you’d rather test your speed, they’ve got an excellent wall for just that! It’s 10 meters tall (as opposed to the standard 15 meters) and has more varied spacing between the holds. The goal is to climb up the wall as fast as you can. It takes most guests around 30 seconds to get up the wall. Try to keep your time down and beat the record of six seconds!

Get Your Day Pass

The Rock Dump is an excellent gym for visitors looking for a challenging workout. They offer day passes for $15 and a harness and shoe rentals for $5. If you’re traveling with children, day passes for kids ages 13 to 5 are just $10. There are also private lessons available for $45 per hour. Call ahead to schedule!
