Experience the Beauty of Juneau in Bloom

Juneau, Alaska is the perfect city for nature lovers, especially during the vibrant spring and summer months. The city’s unique climate and rich biodiversity make it an ideal destination for garden enthusiasts. Between flower shows, guided garden tours, native plant walks, and more, we love being surrounded by all the natural Spring beauty that Juneau has to offer.

A Glimpse at the American Primrose Society National Show

This month’s annual American Primrose Society National Show celebrated the beauty of Primula and the broader floral tapestry of Juneau. Hosted by the local APS chapter and the Jensen-Olson Arboretum, the event featured nationally accredited Primula displays, a keynote on accessible landscape design by Dr. Amy Wagenfeld, hands-on workshops, and private garden tours.

Visit the Jensen-Olson Arboretum

The Jensen-Olson Arboretum, renowned for its extensive Primula collection, provided a picturesque backdrop for the festivities. The Jensen-Olson Arboretum is a gift to the City and Borough of Juneau from Caroline Jensen, a long-time resident and Master Gardener.

One of Caroline’s passions was Primula, also known by its common name of primrose. The Arboretum houses the American Public Gardens Association’s nationally accredited Plant Collections Network for the genus Primula. Some of the species seen here are rarely grown anywhere else in North America.
