Hit The Slopes At Eaglecrest Ski Area In Juneau

Skiing at Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau

Eaglecrest Ski Area boasts some of the best skiing in Alaska – and also claims to be one of the best-kept secrets in Alaska. We can’t argue with that!  In fact, we think the entire Juneau area is one of Alaska’s best-kept secrets in the winter. We’re landlocked and can only be reached by air or by sea, and that means that compared to other popular ski areas in Alaska, Canada, and the Pacific Northwest, there are way smaller crowds at Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau!

But once you’re here, there is so much to do!  From cross country skiing, snowshoeing & winter hiking, skiing and snowboarding, dog sledding, exploring glaciers, and even heliskiing, there’s never a dull moment in Juneau during the winter. Eaglecrest Ski Area is also just 15 minutes from downtown Juneau, which means you’ll spend more time adventuring and less time traveling this winter.

Whether you’re in town to ski at Eaglecrest or to enjoy this winter wonderland in another way, there’s only one place you should consider for lodging; the Silverbow Inn Hotel & Suites.  Our hotel is conveniently located in downtown Juneau and is within walking distance to many of the top attractions, restaurants, breweries, shops, and more. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long, cold day on the slopes, too.  It’s not too late to plan your ski adventures to Juneau this winter – book your room at our downtown Juneau hotel today!

Eaglecrest is Some of the Best Skiing in Alaska

As you can probably imagine, finding some snow to play in near Juneau is a pretty easy thing to do. You have a lot of choices when it comes to activities, too, ranging from traditional skiing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing to dog-sledding, heliskiing, and more.  When it comes to downhill skiing and snowboarding, there’s nothing quite like the experience you’ll find at Eaglecrest Ski Area.

Eaglecrest is owned and operated by the city of Juneau, which means it’s less expensive ($59/day!) than other big-name ski resorts in Alaska, Canada, and the Pacific Northwest.  And, as we’ve already mentioned, you’ll typically find fewer crowds here, which translates to less time standing around in lines and more time carving up the slopes and enjoying your time.

Eaglecrest Ski Area is home to some big mountain terrain, though, with an incredible 1620 foot vertical drop, 640 skiable acres of terrain, plenty of powder, and, of course, access to some stunning backcountry skiing. Season passes are available still, and they will be full price starting November 9.  As an added perk, if you already have a season’s pass somewhere in the Powder Alliance, you get to ski at Eaglecrest for free.  What better way to get out and explore somewhere new?

Opening day for the 2020-2021 ski season at Eaglecrest Ski Area is expected to be December 5th, but of course, that always depends on snowfall here in the Juneau area. There are also protocols in place this year due to COVID 19, which include limited capacity in the lodges, and potentially limited capacity on the mountain itself.  It’s best to plan and buy your tickets ahead of time as much as possible.
