Being in the restaurant business is more than a cash flow calculation to The Hangar on the Wharf. Every Thanksgiving, the restaurant donates its space to the Salvation Army of Juneau and provides a full Thanksgiving dinner to those who otherwise might not have a full belly and good company on the holiday. Without their space, this event wouldn’t be possible. The Salvation Army uses Hangar’s kitchen to smoke 60 turkeys and bake countless pumpkin pies. An article posted in the Juneau Empire headlines, “Community involvement again high at annual meal.” The Hangar on the Wharf’s seat at the table of community engagement helped to serve over 500 Thanksgiving meals in 2018.

Novel Venue

The restaurant’s aviation decor isn’t just to create an illusion that the Hangar is familiar with planes and flying. This eatery is located within the Historic Merchant’s Wharf, which served what eventually became Alaska Airlines. The restaurant’s goal over the past two decades has been to honor Southeast Alaska aviation history.
