Come Ride the Alaska Ferries

Most of the communities in the Southeast region on the Alaska Ferries route provide year-round service. Larger vessels are reserved for the larger communities, while day boats are reserved for smaller communities.

One of the amenities you may find on your ferry is a private cabin. In these cabins, you will find a sleeping and resting space and many have complete bathroom facilities, including showers. Kroschel Films Wildlife Center gives people the opportunity for up-close and personal experiences with over 15 species of Alaskan wildlife. Some of the spectacular species you will be in contact with include: Grizzly bears, wolves, moose, lynxes, foxes, reindeers, porcupines, snowy owls, wolverines, and more! There are plenty of opportunities to photo capture your favorite moments at the wildlife center.

Another popular location to visit is the Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve. The Preserve was created in 1982 and consists of 48,000 acres of river bottomland of the Chilkat, Kleheni, and Tsirku Rivers. This preserve has one of the world’s largest concentrations of Bald Eagles in their critical habitat. It also sustains and protects the natural salmon runs.

If you and your party are up for a thrill-seeking adventure, then the route from Juneau to Hoonah would be an appealing option. This route takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes and the thrilling part of the trip, is a visit to the Icy Strait Point Ziprider. Icy Strait Point is the largest ZipRider, with six 5,330 feet of ziplines dropping 1330 feet. After launching, you will quickly accelerate to speeds exceeding 60 mph as you soar 300 feet above the rainforest below.
